• Helped the Pisces Foundation president – along with a steering committee including The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and Walton Family Foundation – shape and launch a national initiative for environmental funders and NGOs to collaborate in setting and pursuing joint priorities.
• Worked with the founder of Evermore, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of families who have experienced the death of a child, in its early start-up phase to home in on a vision, theory of change, and priority activities.
• Partnered with Susan Bell & Associates in developing a rigorous strategic plan that served as the body of the Public Policy Institute of California’s successful proposal for a multimillion dollar grant to launch the Water Policy Center.
• Helped design the Water Funder Initiative, a collaborative focused on identifying and implementing promising water solutions in the United States.
• Led the development of a logic model to clarify the strategy of Anchors in Resilient Communities (ARC), a multi-stakeholder place-based initiative that leverages the assets of anchor institutions, such as hospitals, to improve the health, economy, and climate resilience of low-income communities of color.
• Worked with the president of the Kingfisher Foundation, a growing family foundation, to clarify her theory of change and formalize her strategy to promote sustainable marine fishing practices.
• Walked the Digital Trust Foundation board of directors – composed of a privacy advocate, a Facebook executive, and a neutral privacy expert – through setting a grantmaking strategy and making 40 grants in the field of digital privacy.
• Synthesized dozens of grant ideas into a manageable list, created a decisionmaking framework, and facilitated the selection of six early action grants (totaling $1.85M) by the steering committee of a new national environmental field-building initiative.
• Conducted a comprehensive analysis of laws and voluntary commitments to improve the nutritional profile of fast food kids’ meals; based on this analysis, advised Healthy Food America to focus its advocacy efforts on other sugar reduction strategies.
• Analyzed for Berkeley Media Studies Group the privacy codes of 13 industry trade associations to determine whether specific provisions might apply to – or be modified to apply to – digital junk-food marketing to children.
• Partnered with Public Good Law Center in drafting a memo identifying and assessing litigation strategies that might be employed against the soft-drink industry to reduce consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages.
